THE LATEST IN LEE & WOLFE NEWS:
"The 107.7 Thing, Again"
The situation remains the same this week, as 107.7 just finishes up a two-week run of an ad in a national radio publication, asking for tapes and resumes from individuals and shows. Hopefully nobody saw it.
A big BIG thanks to the Mayor of Tuscaloosa, Alabama (our home town), the Honorable and Very Cool Al DuPont for writing a letter in support of the Lee & Wolfe show to 107.7 The X. We are told by his secretary that he loves the show, and enjoyed being on in January. He'd like to see some local boys do well. So would we. According to The Backscratching Principle, we will likely have him on the show again soon. Maybe we can find out more about his definition of "kinky," which he said on the show last time was very different than the definition of today. Did we mention he is VERY COOL? Find him at the Tuscaloosa city website at [
http://www.ci.tuscaloosa.al.us ]."The WGN, Chicago Thing"
O.k., so the biggest radio station in the world likes us. Neato. The story begins with Ryan and Suzanne's show on V-91 - Illegal Kung Fu Kick. There was this bit called "Billy - The 4-Year-Old Genius" that they did. We used a clip of it in our "Talk Stew," which you can hear at [
http://v91.simplenet.com/leewolfe/comedy/audio/fall97/tstew021.ram ], then remixed it into a "Spank Billy Remix," which is at the end of the aforementioned Talk Stew. Our largest fan and internet guru, Patrick Douglas Crispen, loved it. What does that have to do with anything, and why am I not getting to the point? Well, Patrick, with all his internet wisdom, was asked to be a regular part of WGN-AM Chicago's overnight starring Steve and Jonnie, on a segment called "Website Wednesday Night." [ http://wgnradio.com ] After debunking internet myths on this show for a while, Patrick gave us a tape of one of his appearances, and requested a Spank Billy-style disco remix of it. Wolfe, also known as Mixmaster General of the United States of America, was more than happy to oblige. He created "Wednesday Night Fever," which can be heard at [ http://v91.simplenet.com/leewolfe/audio/wgn/wedfeve1.ram ], and which became the new intro for Website Wednesday Night. Gotta love that big city exposure. Patrick plugged the hell out of us and our website on WGN recently, so Wolfe is now recovering from severe rapid head expansion. Please visit Patrick's site at [ http://www.netsquirrel.com ]. It's a great place to learn about the net. And we owe him some butt-kissin'.You can listen to a Lee & Wolfe appearance live on Chicago's WGN Wednesday night, March 25th, around midnight (CST), at the website mentioned above, or on 720 AM in 38 states of America and most of Canada. Now that's a BIG station!
"The Scottish Woman Thing"
So this Celtic music performer from Scotland called us asking how to book an appearance on the show. Called from Scotland. O.k... this internet thing is really getting out of hand. She's pretty cool, and by Wolfe's account, has a lovely accent. Check her out at [
http://www.hebrides.com/radiance/kerr.htm ].
COMING UP ON THE SHOW:
"Band-wise"
This week it's Big Brother Blues, a band from right here in Tuscaloosa who plan to fill up our studio with drums, congas, two electric guitars, one acoustic, one bass, a keyboard, and four vocals! We'll be pumping in extra oxygen through the air conditioning system. Listen for BIG Brother Blues a bit after 7pm (CST) on Friday night, March 20th. Listen live at [
http://v91.simplenet.com/leewolfe/audio/liveshow.htm ]"Other-wise"
Don't forget that we give away great stuff every show including an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet for two. Sure, it's local, but we'll award it to whomever wins, regardless of where they are. You do have to come by the studio to pick up your winnings, so it might be tough for Brad in England. Listen for Wolfe to beam with pride as he gives out the telephone area code...
ON THE WEBSITE:
"Video Killed the Radio Star"
If you have Real Player installed on your Pentium system (and why wouldn't you? Go to [
http://www.real.com ] to get it), you can view several new videos on the Lee & Wolfe website! There are recently uploaded band performance videos from Planet Terry, Local Color Movement, Kings of the Killer Fish, and The Shazam. Just go to the video page at [ http://v91.simplenet.com/leewolfe/picpages/pxvideo/pxvideo.htm ] The higher bitrate videos (56k or 128k) look and sound better, if you have a fast connection or time to download them and watch them off of your hard drive. The two television interviews we did recently are being encoded now, and will be uploaded soon. In the meantime, how 'bout a stunning frame grab from the Channel 49 Town Talk interview, where our interviewer Philip Coleman did his Rabid Howler Monkey impression... [ http://v91.simplenet.com/leewolfe/picpages/pxinnews/chan49/oooooh.jpg ] Also, the audio from two Lee & Wolfe shows from February will be available this weekend.THE STRANGEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE:
Oh, sure. It was weird last week when I found out about Starving Children in Canada. But when I learned everything I ever wanted to know about Outhouses in Canada [
http://www.lis.ab.ca/walton/old/out.html ], I knew I had arrived. It even has an FAQ! But even stranger was my first experience with the term "Bomb-Diggety" [ http://www.Geocities.com/Hollywood/2320 ]. I thought the weird would maybe leave me alone. But then I was urged to ask Dr. Allen my blacksmithing questions [ https://ssl.gactr.uga.edu/Forge/askAlan.html ]. Think of a good one...Again, thank you all for your mail and such. We love hearing from you, and I'm sure 107.7 does too. :-)
CORRECTIONS
Last week, I said Cotton Mather was from Houston, Texas. They are, in fact, gay. No, actually, it's that they're from Austin, just like another Lee & Wolfe alum, Vallejo. Austin folks hate it if you think they're from Houston. We're very sorry.
