THE LATEST IN LEE & WOLFE NEWS:
((This issue: New Rock in '99, Planet Rock? What's that?, Mr. Mayor - see below.))
If you're new to the Fun-O-Rama, welcome! Remember, you can sorta kinda catch up with Lee & Wolfe news by reading back issues on the website [
http://v91.simplenet.com/leewolfe/fanzine.htm ]."Still Crazy After All These Years"
The good news? Since we're still under the FBI's witness protection program, the Lee & Wolfe Show keeps on a truckin' for Spring 1999 at New Rock 90.7! Slightly updated show, but the same great music and attempts at comedy and interviews, and we're still live on the Net. We're also adding quite a bit to the website (see below). What's the bad news? We still don't get paid.
"The Show... It Grows!"
Even better news for those in the Birmingham, Alabama area: The Lee & Wolfe Show is expanding to an additional station! Planet Rock 92.5 is a new rock format station in the Birmingham / Jasper area, and our show there is airing on Saturday nights from 7 - 10pm. The format of the show is basically the same (comedy, music, news, live bands) but the songs range from classic rock like Jimi Hendrix, to big hair bands like Poison, to newer rock from Metallica. The Saturday show won't be live on the Net (yet), but the coverage area and potential audience are much bigger, so we're giddy little DJs.
The station is located INSIDE a club! Namely, the J.T. Roberts Club in the Roebuck area on the Old Gadsden Highway (Hwy. 11). From the as-yet-unfinished DJ booth, we can look out on a dance floor, stage, and bar. Very cool. The J.T. Roberts Club also has a teen club within its confines. So now we can actually invite all listeners to join us and party (i.e.: drink, dance, and raise the proverbial roof). Try THAT with any other radio show. We've even -- already -- been flashed.
The new "affiliate" brings up another point. We will now be able to give exposure to more local and regional music, and will need more bands to fill more dates. If you are in a band, whether you've been on our show before or not, make sure we have a recent CD or tape of you, and stay in touch. If you know of a band you think kicks all the booty, tell them to drop us a line!
"Talk to Me, Goose!"
Speaking of dropping us a line, here's yet another review of how to contact us:
For e-mail use
radiogods@leeandwolfe.com for show stuff. To e-mail Lee personally, use lee@leeandwolfe.com , and to e-mail Wolfe personally use wolfe@leeandwolfe.com. To "Instant Message" us and notice when we're online, we recommend you use AOL Instant Messenger available at [ http://www.aol.com/aim ]. It's no-frills and easy to understand. Online I am "lee the dj" and Wolfe is "DJWolfe." To call Planet Rock 92.5 in Birmingham, press the following digits on your phone thingy (205)833-3717, and for the New Rock 90.7 office (205)348-6461. E-mail is better. So there.
ON THE SHOW:
"Band-wise"
Friday, January 8th, AND Saturday the 9th, we will be frightened by the band Black Veil of Birmingham. I only say frightened due to their big scary evil name. They seem quite nice, and will rock quite well. There's even a girl in the band, and you know how that earns points with us. Remember you can call the studio at (205)348-6082 , e-mail, or "instant message" us and the band, since we will again try to be online during the Friday show on New Rock.
"Other-wise"
The Honorable Mayor Al Dupont of our hometown, Tuscaloosa, was minding his own business while getting in some good mall-walking exercise last week. The Christmas decorations were still up in center court, and he seemed content with life in his city as he walked toward us. He was at peace. He was almost certainly over the trauma of being on our radio show last year around this time. But then Wolfe leapt from our food court table where we and the interns were enjoying a lovely overpriced high-calorie mall meal, and accosted him. We enjoyed the look on his face as he tried to remember us ("You were on our show last year... on campus... we're #1 in the country..."). In an effort to escape a pizza-reeking DJ, he quickly agreed to be on again, and told us to call his secretary, the Shadow Mayor. Friday night, Jan. 8, after Jennifer Scott's 6pm news, we'll ask him the tough city-related questions, have him cut the big red ribbon on the new year of Lee & Wolfe, and see if he prefers Tuscaloosa city water in a blind taste test with other muni-H20's. Now that's entertainment.
Our Saturday night show on Birmingham's Planet Rock 92.5 is being shortened and delayed from its normal time of 7-10pm by a Samford University basketball game. We'll be on for a couple of hours after the game with the aforementioned Black Veil.
ON THE WEBSITE:
"New Stuff? No Way!"
Yes way! Twenty (that's 1 score in Lincoln-ese) hours of NEW Lee & Wolfe Real Audio is on the show page. Hear most of the fall shows from 1998, including the L.A.W.N.R.90.7 A.H. We may even get the rest of the fall semester's shows up there before the millenium ends. Visit [
http://v91.simplenet.com/leewolfe/audio/theshow.htm ] Don't forget the Friday show on New Rock 90.7 in Tuscaloosa, is also LIVE on the net every Friday 5 - 8 pm CST, 2300 - 0200 GMT. Just follow the same length.
THE STRANGEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE:
O.k., whose favorite number is seven? Who'd like to see an entire web page devoted to just the number seven? Who the hell would make such a page? I dunno. But here it is. Someone tell Prince. [
http://acorn.educ.nottingham.ac.uk/ShellCent/Number/Num7.html ] Strange.Privacy is a big issue these days on the net. So why not encrypt your e-mail messages in Pig Latin! No one will ever figure out what you're saying. Not even the recipient. And sure enough, someone has a website to translate an e-mail message into Pig Latin. Type in English, and your friend can read his or her message while using their little piggy decoder ring. [
http://nolensville.com/piglatin ]. Does anyone know WHY it's called Pig Latin? I've always wondered.Although the following site says you need the Real Player "G2" to listen to its audio, the regular Real Player seems to do just fine, at least on the files I checked. And what files were these I mention? The ones on the Captain James T. Kirk Singalong site. No. Really. Leonard Nimoy's even there. Boldly go where no one should have ever gone at [
http://www.loskene.com/singalong/kirk.html ].
Thanks again to all of you for reading, listening, writing, and keeping our lives a step above worthless...
