If you can manage to drag yourself out of bed at 7:30 am on a Saturday morning after Friday pep rally and party activities, you can participate in WVUA's annual "People on a Truck" theme homecoming float. The float features hungover DJs, and at least one group of sorority girls, as well as loud PA speakers blaring what's coming from the radio station, remote equipment, and a stinking gas-powered generator. The crowd along the parade route stares at you and tries to figure out what you are, and you wave and yell at them. Then you go home and shower and nap. Good clean Alabama fun.
| At 8 am, Lee is as sensitive to light as the Mogwai. And he regularly eats after midnight. | |
| From left to right: Newsgirl Jennifer, Intern Heather, Lee, Wolfe, Intern-Wife Rachael, Engineer Nick. We're still not sure if Nick's moustache was about to explode, or if someone was peeing in his face from a third floor window. He eventually shaved the moustache, so that was probably it.. | |
| Another DJ, Shawn, knew his girlfriend would be near the judging area at the end of the parade, and prepared signs for us all to hold up, asking her to marry him. Ker-BARF! :-) | |
| Shawn celebrates being single. That's Wolfe on the right. | |
| Shawn had much nervous energy, and so started repeatedly stabbing Lee. | |
| Nick and Wolfe are forced to listen to Lee sing, as lack of sleep makes him delirious. | |
| Standing too close to the remote transmitter caused Lee to briefly become mighty and powerful. | |
| When we reach the judging area, Shawn's girlfriend was there as planned, and he actually went through with it, proposing marriage live on the air. | |
| She says yes, and the crowd loves it. Here's a close up of the cuteness. | |
| As the parade ended, we were excited to see Wheelie Guy, a Tuscaloosa icon. He's been riding around the city at random times for many years on a bicycle with no front wheel. I've even seen him balance on and ride the length of a divider rail in the median of a major highway. |
